I'm sure a color bit-mapped raster could do a dandy job of displaying cube-like objects in any size and geometry you can imagine. If you must have a physical cube, how about a box with LCD's on all faces (in six colors?), pressure sensors to detect what ytou want to twist, and a uP inside to do all the work. -------
